Skate 3 browser tricks: ollies, flips, grabs & grinds

Build a clean line with a push, an ollie and a controlled landing.

Start with the ollie

The project’s loading tips describe an ollie as pulling the right stick back and then flicking it forward. On a keyboard, the arrow keys emulate that stick. Think of the motion as a short sequence rather than holding every direction at once.

Push to a comfortable speed on flat ground, line up away from obstacles, pull back and flick forward. Let the board settle before attempting the next trick. Easy difficulty gives more forgiving landings while you learn the timing.

A nollie reverses the stick motion. Practise the two separately so the direction of your first input becomes familiar.

Add a flip

The original project describes side flicks on the way up for kickflips and heelflips. Start from the ollie motion you can already land, then add a controlled side flick. A standard controller’s right stick gives more continuous movement than a keyboard’s digital directions.

Try one motion at a time. If you keep bailing, return to a small jump with a straight approach. The project’s landing tip is to keep the board level before touching down; getting a dramatic spin is only useful if you can finish it.

Practise a grab in the air

The keyboard reference maps Z and X to the bumpers, and Shift and C to the triggers. The project’s Controls menu identifies trigger inputs as grabs, while its loading tips also describe bumper hand inputs. Check PLAYER → Controls for the active layout when choosing a grab.

Begin on a jump that already gives you enough time in the air. Add the hand input, release it before landing and keep the board under you. Changing the jump, approach and grab together makes a failed landing harder to diagnose.

Approach rails and ledges

The project’s grind tip is to ollie into a rail or ledge and hold the stick to keep the grind going. Set up the line before the jump: give yourself room to approach, get enough speed, and aim at a short section of the obstacle.

Start with a low ledge in a park rather than a long stair rail. Once you can get onto it, practise staying balanced and returning the board to a level landing. A clean entry and exit make a better practice target than a long grind you cannot finish.

A short practice line

  1. Push and steer through open flat ground.
  2. Land three small ollies along the same straight approach.
  3. Add one side flick and focus on the landing.
  4. Move to a low ledge and practise the entry.
  5. Combine only the moves you can land consistently.

This practice order is an editorial suggestion. For every button mapping, use the controls reference or the project’s in-game menu.
